The heart of the Millennium Park over Lakę Goplo is the Lakę itself. Lakę Goplo is the largest of all the lakes in the Wielkopolsko-Kujawskie Lakę District and together with Kruszwica forms a vital stage of the Piast Route. It is here that the famous amber route connecting the Baltic Sea with the Roman Empire was passing. The settlement traditions of Kruszwica datę bank to the Stone Agę. The first settlement was established around 700 B.C. At the end of the 10th century a Piast castle was built here together with the centre of the Christian worship, St. Yitus Cathedral. Legends and history of that part of the Kujawy region arę very interesting. King Popiel, Piast and his son Ziemowit, the Mouse Tower and the Collegiate Church arę the names that for many Poles symbolize the origins of the Polish state.
The vegetation in the area of the Millennium Park is rich and varied. Over 700 species of vascular plants thrive here, with willow-poplar and alder-ash riverside carrs, halophytes, \erophytes and assemblages of aąuatic plants, both floating and submersed. Homogenous strips of reed and bulrush arę a wonderful place of habitation for numerous species of birds.
The region comprising Lakę Goplo and its surroundings is an important habitat of birds of European significance. Over 200 bird species live in the territory of the Park, of which 146 arę breeding species. Elaborating on the subject would reąuire much morę space that we arę short of here. Therefore we just invile you to visit the Park. Remember about the "3 x Don't" rule that must be observed, that is:
Don't destroy
Don't litter
Don't damage
Always tidy up after yourself.
